On my mind...

Steve Madden wedged booties

On my mind these days are some of my favorite pieces I own. As you know living in Miami is particularly challenging in terms of following the season's trend, and although I do not necessarily stick with seasonal items as strictly as some people do, I would sometimes like to have a chance to sport my fall pieces. Lately though it seems as though summer doesn't want to leave us, and rain and humidity continue to well just rain on our parade! But rain you are not holding me back, I WILL attempt to wear some fall pieces I have recently collected.

Brunch full of fun

25 October, 2011

On Sunday two gal pals and I headed over to the Design District where we ended up at no other than Michael's Genuine Food & Drink. I had wanted to step foot in that place, but never quite made it there. So when my friends told me that the first location fell through, I was delighted to know of our second choice. After a quick detour around the beautiful homes around the neighborhood, I arrived at 11:45am just in time to fuel up with delightful eats.

deviled eggs + mimosas = Divine

 a lovely friend

kimchi benedicts & wood roasted chicken salad sandwich

florida shrimp and grits

most anticipated: Hedy's assorted favorite childhood treats-Snickers and their goat's milk cheesecake

the low down:
  • Homemade feel to it and no wonder they use local ingredients to create these little masterpieces.
  • Chef Michael and his team really put care and thought into each plate.
  • The deviled eggs were creamy and soft just as they should be and the mimosas were a welcome pick me up!
  •  My favorite plate ------ the kimchi benedict.
  • Composed of a toasted crumpet, poached eggs, crispy pork belly (the main star of the show), kimchi and kimchi hollandaise.
  • The crispy pork belly was to die for, I seriously would have had atleast 5 more, just to get my hands on that pork belly!
  • The kimchi pretty delicious too.
  • In case you are wondering what kimchi is, it is a spicy pickled cabbage and a national dish of Korea.
  • The wood roasted chicken salad sandwich was refreshing, while the florida shrimp and grits was saucy and savory.
  • Most anticipated part of the brunch, le dessert!
  • homemade snickers bars, funny the waitress warned us that we would never want to have a regular snickers bar ever again...she was right!
  • The goat's milk cheesecake was not too sweet, so it's perfect for those not seeking a super indulgent dessert. The candid fennel gave the cheesecake that sweet touch and the crust was filled with spices which gave it a nice kick.
Needless to say, three gals were indeed satisfied.

Halloween inspired nail art

16 October, 2011

Thanks to the wonderful folks at Refinery29 I have been able to recreate their Ombre nail art (find the tutorial on how to do it here). Let me tell you it took me several tries the first time I tried to recreate the nail art, but it was so worth it because the result was spectacular. The first time I donned the look was for the Pink Ribbon Project event on October 1st, 2011 put together by my talented friend Michelle at Gab Studies (more info on the location here) in Wynwood.

{For this look I used Maybelline Express Finish-Love Struck and Sally Hansen Salon-Pat on the Black} and this was the result…

The nail art was such a hit the first time that I couldn’t help to do it again for a really appropriate time of the year Halloween.

{For this look I used SinfulColors Professionals-Secret Admirer and ORLY-Truly Tangerine} Check out the results, don’t they look spooktacular? And ofcourse they were a major hit with my friends once again!

If you recreate the Ombre nail art and would like to share the result with me send photos to chicstreetsandeats@gmail.com, I will post three different looks on my blog!
