At home

29 August, 2012

I adore elephants and can you see my little poodle, I am obsessed.

now that I have new floors I want to buy the whole Home Goods store or any furniture, decor and vintage shops I lay my eyes on. You see I had carpet before and it wasn't pretty, I have never liked carpet and so I couldn't be happier. So in honor of my desire to spend money on dolling up my home here are a few things I currently own that I love. Next step buying new sectional, I am crossing my fingers for a white leather one.

Argentinian goodies I picked up at Graziano's Market

i love the small little things that make you happy, I bought those Argentinian treats a few days back and by now we only have two of the adorable umbrella-shaped chocolates (which by the way, could make for an adorable adornment on a gift or as part of a gift). In this house we love sweets, so I try to buy treats from time to time. Alfajores a favorite among South Americans are one of my favorite to enjoy, they come in different flavors, in different sizes and every country has their favorite way of dressing these delights. You should try them if you haven't already.

I noticed that today's post consists of varies hues of pink, it was unintentional but none the less it made it look cohesive.

To my Miami folks, hope you are all staying dry and safe as we wait for Tropical Storm Isaac to hit us with tons of rain. I know must of you are having parties...I see you. Regardless of how you spend it, stay safe.

Purple mint

ah the peplum is a favorite to many fashion bloggers because it is versatile and so much fun. I found this peplum at the Zara semi-annual sale for $19.99, can you believe that? not really. I am very much in love with all the pieces that I put together for this look, they have been my obsession this summer. The jeans were found at the Madewell summer styling event a few months back and have worn them over and over again, the shoes I had been eyeing since they came out and got them on the sale too and the hard shell bag I found through this pretty cool new site called Bib + Tuck is one of the best summer finds. The sunnies I scooped them up last week at the Gap Styld.by + Lookbook.nu event and I am in love with them. The color combination on this outfit makes me feel happy every time I see it, purple and mint go so well together, don't you agree?

On a side note, can you tell what I did to my lips? I put on an outer color and an inner color to my lips adding an interesting effect to them. I used MAC Sheer Supreme - Asian Flower for the outer part of the lip and Sephora - Rouge for the inner part of the lip.

Gigi Noodles

20 August, 2012

coconut curry chicken bun

as always I am one to be in a rush to try out a place that I hear about...this was no exception, except that I didn't go right away as I wanted. There are a million places I always want to go to and end up going to them months later either lack of time of fail to remember where it was I wanted to go. Gigi Noodles BBQ and Beer is a sweet little spot to grab a bite. See below for the lowdown.

the lowdown:
  • Gigi Noodles BBQ and Beer is located across from the Midtown shops in the Wynwood/Midtown area.
  • The restaurant is always jammed packed with locals and those taking the party to the streets.
  • Open until late, no wonder people stroll in at all hours of the night.
  • The restaurant is small and so there is a wait, but make no mistake it is worth the wait.
  • The restaurant was created by the co-creator of the Townhouse Hotel, Bond Street Sushi Lounge, Bardot, Buck 15, Sra Martinez, and Miss Yip Chinese cafe.
  • As you can tell by now the food is Asian-inspired and unpretentious.
  • Everything looked phenomenal, I wanted to try just about everything on the menu.
  • The buns are probably my favorite as they are the perfect meal after a long night of partying or shopping, because they are small and fun to eat.
  • I had the coconut curry chicken bun, I can taste the curry and once I put one of their spicy sauces all the flavors came alive. I could have had about three of them but I am trying so so hard to lay off of carbs...it's not easy.
  • The mixed green salad was fresh, light but with enough dressing to make it tasty.
  • The short rib sandwich was another favorite it was so so so so good. With a kick of spice and that aged cheddar, who doesn't like cheese? it's a perfect combination of sweet and spicy.
  • The steak chowfun is actually a good meal to have after you've had one to many drinks because it is comforting, steamy and packed with flavor. The meat was tender, the noodles marinated in Hoisin Sauce and veal marrow, which is what gives it such a savory flavor.
  • Overall, a great spot to try out exciting new dishes and people watch.
  • Yes do go, I recommend it...although for some of you it may be a far drive, it is a cool spot to dine out. Either go there before going out to any of the lounges around the area or go after, when you have danced, laughed, drank the night away.

My turban farewell to Summer

15 August, 2012

Turban: Gold Saturn (find it here)// Dress: Agua (via Bloomingdale's)// Sunnies: Vintage Ray-Ban Necklace: StyleTryst// Ring: Bar III// Bracelet: Juicy Couture// Shoes: Chinese Laundry

Missed you will be relentless summer.
For thy breaths bring us color and thy rays bring us light,
Where skin meets thy sun and thy warmth makes us feel alive;
Persons come together to bask in thy delight,
For summers are for gathering around those that bring us sighs;
Young love devotes their triumph to thy weary days of summer,
Where they rush across the sunflowers to find a moment to gaze into each other’s eyes.
Missed you will be relentless summer for thee will not be here- tomorrow.

(dedicated to the wonderful Jeffrey, who is somewhere in the heavens reading my post and smiling. You see, he was a lover of poetry and a connoisseur of life)
yes, that was written by yours truly. I felt romantic all of a sudden, and yes for those who may not know I am indeed a helplessly hopelessly romantic. I've always loved writing, it is very therapeutic for me and its been years since I last wrote a poem so I am so proud of this little one right here. Moving on, I will miss the days where you can dress with a flowing maxi dress and a cool turban to catch your hair; But I certainly love fall dressing, because the color palettes are my absolute favorite. As summer is slowing closing the door on us, I am starting to think...what really is fall dressing for us here in Miami? you'll have to wait and see.

On my mind

12 August, 2012

the result of a fun girl's night out at Artists at the Falls

i haven't been doing many of my Sunday posts, I do apologize. At times it gets so busy and I am caught up in the moment that I fail to either have my camera with me or snap a photo of where ever I am. These are just a few of the things that have been happening lately that make me realize what a wonderful life it is indeed. Hope your week and weekend have been a blast and that you have another fantastic, productive week up ahead.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, for us Miamians we have a beautiful day I know many of you are enjoying the sunny weather.

A White Vest

06 August, 2012

Top: Express// Vest, Jeans & Bag: Zara// Sunnies: Furor Moda// Shoes: Sole Society

a vest, especially a white one is one you must have in your closet. A good vest can transform an otherwise simple outfit, it will provide a sophisticated edgy look. I have a feeling this vest is going to exhaust itself, I want to wear it with so many different looks. The best part about vests is that they are good year round, wear them with tanks, short-sleeves, long-sleeves and even over a jacket. Get a vest in a neutral color so that you can pair it with many items and can give you versatility. White is one of my colors and so I had been looking for a white vest for quite some time, when I found this one I was delighted and now I want to wear it all the time.

Hope you had a great weekend and have a fantastic week. Any of you keeping up with the Olympics 2012? if so, what is your favorite sport to watch?
