I am utterly in love with what Angeles Almuna did with this video, she is a wonderful friend whom I met because of blogging. She approached me with this idea that she was working on and I instantly said yes, because who can say no to Angeles, she is the sweetest and most humble of people. Not to mention her designs are ridiculously fabulous and one of a kind. I had never come across with designs as the ones she makes, the Spike Edgy flower brooch I am wearing is one of her designs and has been getting some serious attention. Her designs are versatile, which means you can wear them with just about anything and can be worn in many different ways, such at the waist, even on the back to give a dress or flowy top some life. Make sure to check out her designs, they will rock your world.

What did you think of the video? and by the way, I have now become obsessed with Jamie Woon, whom I had never heard of until I saw this video and heard the song.

Summer Time, Summer Time Madness

30 May, 2013

It's summer time, summer time madness and that calls for shorts. Miami becomes a hot yoga room and all we can think about is how little garments we can pull off on the streets. I rarely wear shorts, but these were just too hot to pass, not to mention that these will be the last few days I wear shorts before I go to winter wonderland and pounds of clothing is the norm. Miamians do lots of complaining when it comes to humidity and heat but take them out of Miami and into the cold, they cry and whimper because they miss those sweaty nights and that is exactly what I will be doing in a few months. For now though, I will enjoy my last few days and try to get a really good tan (wink).

|A Tail| of a modern day Gatsby

22 May, 2013

I had this little project brewing in my head for a few months and actually was the original theme Karla and I's collaboration (see what we did here) but ended up not working out at the time but I still wanted to do it. My plan was to have it out before the remake of one of my ultimate favorite books-turned-movies The Great Gatsby, I was obsessed since the day I read the book back in grade school. Not only was the story so divine but it depicted a romance during my ultimate favorite era, the 1920s. I live and breath for that time in history, mostly because well the way women and men would dress was decadent and extravagant. When I saw that The Great Gatsby was going to be remade, I instantly thought of this post and viola- here it is. I had a different location I wanted to shoot in but time and energy where not on my side, so I decided to make the best of it and shoot around my neighborhood.

I am getting back in the groove of posting outfits, I know it's been lacking but I got you people, you will be getting a few more before I cross the pond over to Germany.

pain, sweat and nightmares are just what I feel like I am going through, ever since we started planning our wedding, I have been on a strict budget with little room to shop. No shopping for a blogger is plain tragic, you feel like you are falling behind, slipping through the cracks of irrelevance. So in order to keep my style sanity in check, I search the web for inspiration and what I would buy if I could at all. Here are a few of the things I have my eyes on and wishing they were hanging in my closet or on my vanity.  Who doesn't want a winking eye bag or a stunning lucite minaudiere or those sexy floral pants on the top right corner, or even those red hot tamales of sandals? all these little numbers are perfect for endless summer days and nights. I have also been dying to try the Rodin luxury face oil that I have heard rave reviews about but I am having a hard time dishing out that kind of money for a small bottle of goodness...but I am hoping I come around to buying it before summer ends.

|Theory Chic| Life as seen through instagram

01 May, 2013

ever so often I ponder on why certain things are the way they are, why stigmas are created, how new things can influence us in ways we never thought. You see these thoughts come to me because naturally I am a sociologist and anthropologist so issues as such always create a diagram in my head and rarely ever escape. I had to have a way to answer these questions, I thought the best way was to share it with all of you and so Theory Chic was born, a series where Fashion, Sociology and Anthropology would marry and live happily together in one space. Now that I have explained what this is all about, lets move on to the topic of today.

"life as seen through instagram" a phenomenon that has taking over our lives with out notice. You see we go about our day snapping away with our camera phones and in some instances our tablets to capture our daily activities, for some it may be lunch at a new it spot, a walk with your pet, new purchases, a gift, cool events, memories a.k.a throw back Thursdays and so on. These activities in return represent us and jots down in a virtual photo diary known as instagram the things we do, and in return provides a glimpse of our lives to the world. Some people find that too invasive and just flat out ridiculous, and I can see why but in the scheme of things, if you really look at it from a sociological point of view, it is quite remarkable, really. Here is why, pre-instagram era our lives were pretty mundane, we went about our days conjuring the duties up ahead, enslaving ourselves to those stacks of paper on our desks and disliking the fact that there were dishes to clean when we got back home. We possibly failed to see life happening around us, particles that were begging for our attention, to be noticed and to be captured; like that beautiful flower sitting in that lonely garden, or that kick-ass mural a block from your house, or the beautiful light that hits your window everyday but never paid mind to it. We also have been able to connect with family, friends and even strangers that are living in different parts of the world in a much deeper level, we almost get to feel as though we were part of their everyday because they have shared it through their social media sites. Before the social media craze, I barely knew what was going on in the lives of my family members that did not live near me and so there was a disconnect, but now I am able to see them almost everyday and I feel so much more closer to them...remarkable, I told you so.

the technological advances that led to the smart phones and tablets have opened up a world that could not have been imagined by our predecessors, one that has allowed us to view world events and things as fast as the speed of light, the people we follow are our other sets of eyes, they as well as us provide inspiration everyday, to seek and to see things that we never noticed before. This phenomenon has brought together people from all over the world in one space to share their human experience, that is something powerful, isn't it?

what do you think? does my thoughts on this phenomenon resonate with yours? or not at all?
