Tropic Transition

28 August, 2013

The transition from summer to fall is always a fun, yet complicated one. We want to hold on to summer as much as we can and that is exactly the situation I am in at the moment, there are days here in Frankfurt that are beginning to feel like fall, cool, rainy and cloudy and then just like that the day after it is sunny and slightly warm. With changing weather as such I have to find ways to keep myself warm, without making me sweat like a hog. This look is one example of a great transition from summer to fall, holding on to every bit of summer with my tropical baseball cap and my flat espadrilles for a sporty chic look. Hoping to bring you more ideas of transitional wear in the upcoming weeks before the temperatures really start to drop.

In other news, I am extremely excited for New York Fashion Week even though my presence in the Big Apple will be lacking. I am looking forward to what trends will be coming to us for Spring/Summer 2014, I will be watching live and following my blogger counterparts on their adventures during NYFW.

what an adventure it's been, it feels like a dream in which I am living a long vacation. Here is day shot through the Eiserner Steg Bridge (aka The Iron Footbridge, built in 1868-69) located in the heart of Frankfurt and connects with Sachsenhausen (the Apple Wine District, in German: Apfelwein). People began leaving love padlocks on the edges of the bridge in hopes to have everlasting love, the tradition came to Frankfurt via the city of Cologne (in German: Koln) where about 40,000 love padlocks have been left all across the River Rhine...ah love stories, they never seize to exist. I will sure leave my own love story hanging from this bridge in hopes to show our children some day, and when I do I will instagram it.
Walking and beer have been going hand in hand in this city, the first few days we were here, we melted like chocolate and was hard to believe that we who came from Miami couldn't make it through the day's heat. In the first photo we are standing in the area known as the Romerberg, a historic center since the High Middle Ages (dating back to year 794), where most of the buildings where reconstructed after World War II, only having a small number of buildings preserved from those times. The second photo shows you the beautiful St. Bartholomew Church, which is situated in the Romerberg.
ah at last I come to you Zara Home, if you know me, you know I love Zara. Small moment, but a happy one none the less.
an adorable Christmas store in downtown Frankfurt, tucked away in a not so visited street. Hyrdrangeas and flowers in general are in every corner, where bees have seemed to thrive because of them.
a Biergarten, enjoyed by the company of family.
strangers in the night, exchanging glances, strangers in the night...lyrics from "Strangers in the Night" sang by many artist but my favorite variation is from Frank Sinatra. This street is part of the Sachsenhausen area across the main river.
city lifestyle and some inspiration from past decades.
fruits and flowers from a great local market housed inside a building.
the beautiful privately owned Boosenburg Castle located in the picturesque city of Rudesheim a thirty to forty-minute drive from Frankfurt and an hour away by train.
within the streets of what can be a perfect two-day escape into the country side of Germany, as mentioned in the city of Rudesheim.
cool little shop with unique and one of a kind liqueurs, wines and oils.
if you are ever in Rudesheim, visit this place, the staff was so lovely and the food was so good.
more of Rudesheim
and last at hill top with a breath-taking view in the arms of the one I love.

For most people the thought of moving to another country, where the language is unknown and where life will have to start from scratch is a daunting step, one that would be take cautiously and with some fear. My family and friends were probably freaking out more than I was, as I was cool as a pickle, I started to think to myself that it was weird that I was so calm and collective, because my nature is to be a bit of a nervous wreck.  I think my calmness is all due to age,  my perception of life is much more relaxed and happy-go-lucky. Learning the transit system has sure been a bit of challenge, not to mention the language  but overall, I have had a smooth transition to this new life and can only see what the future holds for me. Thanks for taking part in this new adventure and I hope you have enjoyed this recap as much as I have.

|Chic Eats| De Rodriguez Cuba

14 August, 2013

this is a long overdue post, a couple weeks back when I was still in Miami I was invited to come and try out De Rodriguez Cuba Restaurant located on Ocean Drive. The restaurant is not located on the main strip, it's hidden inside the Hilton Bentley Miami so I can see why many may miss this gem. I say gem, because that is exactly what it is, I was extremely surprised by the ambiance, the service and of course the food. I decided to take one of my bridesmaid with me as she wanted to see me one last time before I left, so what better way than to take her along for the experience. She is actually in the hospitality industry and was just as pleasantly surprised as I was, which only validated my thoughts on the restaurant, she knows her stuff when it comes to restaurants and service in general. I had been advised to try the tasting menu, which had just been added to the menu and promised to be a hit. So we did just that, I was so excited to try everything because it all sounded phenomenal. The tasting menu can easily feed four people, we couldn't stuff our faces anymore and where so sadden to see such divine food go to waste. Everything was spectacular, I mean everything, you MUST try this place. You are actually in luck because De Rodriguez Cuba is on the Miami Spice Menu which runs until September 30th, don't waste anytime, I promise it will not let you down.

What we had:
Drinks: Cojito and Passion Picoso; The Grand Tasting Menu, consisting of the following: Foie Gras & Fig Empanadas, Kobe Meatballs, Crsipy Shrimp Chicharron; Four types of Ceviches: Tuna Watermelon, Ecuadorian Shrimp Ceviche and Tostones, Chifa Salmon, Mixed Seafood; Smoked Marlin Tacos, Vaca Frita Skirt Steak, Sugar Cane Tuna, and Chicharron de Pollo; Dessert: Goat Cheese Flan and Da Bomb (that's the name of the dessert).

Two must haves:
Well since we had the tasting menu, it is really hard to narrow it down, so either you listen to me and get the tasting menu or the two must haves are: Crispy Shrimp Chicharron and Tuna Watermelon (two of my ultimate favorites).

in all seriousness, everything we had (with the exception of the Foie Gras & Fig Empanadas, only because I am not a fan of Foie Gras, but I am sure those who like it will enjoy it) was beyond amazing, the craftsmanship and presentation of the food was excellent and the taste was superb. Thank you De Rodriguez Cuba for having us and for the excellent service and menu.

01 August, 2013

it's been a while, since I first saw you (lyrics from Stained), that is exactly the feeling I am having right now with you all. I have been eagerly waiting to have the time to shoot some outfit posts for you, something, something at least. This outfit post was a very casual one, as it was shot on my way to do some grocery shopping at the REWE [how I have been told it is pronounced is REH VAH] tried to find it on the web and it gave me different ways of pronouncing it so I guess lets just stay with mine for now, until I speak to a German and clarify the issue. Let me just say this quickly, the REWE is amazing, I am completely in love with this chain of supermarkets as it carries plenty of wonderful, yummy stuff that I am looking forward to try. It's a cross-over between a Publix (for my Floridians) and a Whole Foods. But I also have tons of local weekly markets around the area that sell tons of fresh foods and vegetables. OK enough with my market talk, I will give you a more in-depth story of how it has been in Frankfurt thus far possibly next week, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

What do you think of my very bright and colorful floral pants? I sure brought Miami to Germany as most people here I have noticed dress in muted colors. I got a lot of stares wearing these, not sure if they were good or bad but I am going to assume they were all good...I want to believe I am influencing some people here (wink). Hope you enjoy this and you will be seeing more of me in coming weeks, stay with me, don't leave me (begging hands in place).
