NYX Cosmetics at NYFW 2014 |for Chadwick Bell x Nicholas K|

20 September, 2013

If you followed this year's New York Fashion Week and have followed those before, you know that makeup and hair is just as important as the clothes walking down the runway, it sets the aesthetics of the Designer. Choosing the right style of makeup is crucial, because it can break or make the show's flow. NYX Cosmetics, one of my now favorite brands of affordable cosmetics hit the runway with two unbelievably cool designers, Chadwick Bell and Nicholas K. I say unbelievably cool because they both showcase this aura of coolness, both have futuristic styles, yet completely different at the same time, Chadwick Bell is more structured and sophisticated, while Nicholas K style is more tomboy cool.

This year Chadwick Bell's Spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear collection was inspired by childhood, growing up in southern California, he drew inspiration from those tough girls of his youth, who now have evolved to strong, modern women. He played with saturated hues, like, nude tones of ivory, pale pinks, to royal blues and blacks. NYX Cosmetics Lead makeup artist Daniel Martin took the opportunity to create a playful look so to create a juxtaposition to the collection's refined and sophisticated clothing, as you can see on the first two photos. If you want to try the same look, just take a look at the makeup face chart for descriptions of the items used. For Nicholas K's Spring 2014 Ready-to-Wear collection, the inspiration came also from the brother-sister due's childhood roots, as they grew up in Arizona near an Apache reservation, where most of their time was spent outdoors. Their Spring collection drew inspiration from shamanism, a practice that is seen around the world and in Native American populations and one that I am very familiar with and obsessed with. So Daniel Martin, in collaboration with Chief Creative Director Cristina Bartolucci played with the muted, airy looks of the collections to give the models that "Modern Tribal Warrior" look, which they certainly achieved as you can see from the third and fourth photos. If you want to recreate the look, take a look at the Nicholas K makeup face chart for a list of products used for this show.

Hope you enjoyed this special post, which gives you an inside look on how lead makeup artists work together with designers to create the perfect look for their collection. NYX Cosmetics did a fantastic job to maintain the the aesthetic of both designers as well as the fluidity of both collections.

Buckled Life

17 September, 2013

Seasonal living is an acquired talent, and I am still trying to figure out the art of layering because this Miami girl knows very little of what it's like to live in places that have all seasons. See Miami only has one, HOT, that is the only thing we know and so layering is just silly vocabulary for us. The weather here in Frankfurt has been changing, leaving the hot summer days behind and seeing cold rainy, and overcast days ahead. It will certainly be an interesting change, one that I must adept to quickly or you will see a frozen Popsicle in front you. I am looking forward to it, slightly afraid, but mostly excited to see the changes and possibly see snow, it will be my first time. I was telling the hubby that this winter will be an exciting one, well because as mentioned it's my first real winter with snow and all, so the kid in me will be giddy. But the second and third and all those that will follow will not be as fun, but if all these people that live here can do it, so can I. By the way the beautiful building behind me is the Industrie und Handelskammer (IHK) Frankfurt am Main building, which is as we would know it as their Chamber of Commerce.

On a side note, I am obsessed with my new shoes, I want to wear them all the time.

Brands x Stores I Love

11 September, 2013

New series I will  be rolling out every month, the series named "Brands x Stores I Love" will be a tribute to brands and stores newly discovered, up and coming brands, and established ones alike that just keep coming out with kick-ass stuff. The first of the series is this cool and very affordable brand called NYX Cosmetics, some of you may already know it. I love this brand because it had edgy and cool cosmetics that are very fun to play around with and can rival that of the pricier brands as MAC. I have recently tried all of the items pictured here and I have to say that I love them all just as equally, maybe their matte lipstick a little more than the rest but every item has been fantastic. The only exception is that the Precious Pearls nail kit is not as long lasting as I wished and not very practical for ladies on the move but they look oh so pretty. They were the choice of make up for Chadwick Bell and Nicholas K during this year's New York Fashion Week (post on that coming this week) and have new fall items that I will surely try soon. If you haven't discovered them yet, check them out here.

B.O.A.T Attire |Bloggers of All Time|

10 September, 2013

This t-shirt I am wearing is a collaboration between B.O.A.T (Best of All Time) Attire and my two lovely friends Karla Garcia and Mayleen Gonzalez. The collaboration was inspired by the now popular Shark Week, and was meant to also inspire people to style and wear boat attire even after they are off the boat. For that matter, several bloggers were sent over this tees to see how each of us would style them, this post was suppose to come out last week but knowing how I am all the way across the country it didn't get to me by then. I styled my tee with a white crisp blazer and jeans that look more like pants to give it a more sophisticated street chic look, plus it was very chilly the day I shot it. What I love about B.O.A.T Attire's line is that they easy-to-wear pieces that can transition from day to night, check them out and get your Shark Week inspired-tee for yourself. To see how other bloggers styled their tees look for hashtag #bloggersofalltime on Instagram

|Splurge vs Save| Wedding Shoes

04 September, 2013

Looking for wedding shoes has been harder than I thought, just the same as I felt with selecting my wedding gown. I thought pre-planning era that the best part of wedding planning was gown and shoe shopping, mainly because I love them both just as equally, maybe shoes a bit more...they're more practical. I am extremely selective and I want exactly what I envision in my head, anything else is not worthwhile, but such things don't happen that way unless you have mountains of cash to throw; Otherwise, you are left with little choices. I want my wedding shoes to last way beyond the wedding day, because if I intend to splurge I want to be able to wear them even in my sleep. I have done a little collage for you to help me decide whether I should splurge or save on my wedding shoes, splurging will require me to do the following: Butter up my loved ones, cook everyday for the honey, be a street performer, wink uncontrollably at the salesperson and/or sale my soul. So now that you see the amount of work I am going to have to put in to get one of my dream shoes, what do you say? Splurge or save?
